From the notebook

Bogotá's altitude gave everything a strange clarity — the graffiti in La Candelaria looked sharper, the coffee tasted stronger. I ducked into a tiny shop off Plaza Bolívar during a sudden rain and ended up talking politics with the owner for an hour over two tintos, neither of us finishing our sentences before interrupting.
